There is a plague attempting to destroy our industry and confuse our customers. The myth is that hardwired security equipment is a thing of the past. Many companies are touting that the future is completely wireless.  That hardwired security is dead. After listening to this for three years I decided to weigh in on the subject. A competitive company has recently been going door to door telling our customers that their equipment is outdated because it is not completely wireless. Not only does it bother me that they are attempting to steal my clients… I am concerned with the way they do it. The real reason these guys want to install wireless equipment is because they can install it quickly. Since they are an out of State company they want put as many systems on the ground as possible while they are here. But I’m losing focus, this is not a blog about door knocking security companies. I could write a book about that too. The fact is that wireless equipment is very reliable. It is a great solution for many customers, but even at it’s best it still operates on battery power. This causes more maintenance for the customer. Because of this, ASI typically only uses wireless equipment for two reasons.  The first is when we can’t get a wire where it would need to be without running it down your wall. Most people do not want wire running all up and down their walls. The second is if the client plans to move soon. Wireless equipment takes much less time to move from place to place.

So what’s the point? Make sure you educate yourself about the security equipment your company is offering before you make any decisions.

THE MYTH: Hardwired security systems our outdated. They have no place in a modern security solution. If a company installs a hardwired system they are behind the times.

THE TRUTH: Wireless equipment is a reliable substitution when hardwired equipment is not an option because of the structure of the building. It should also be used if the client plans to move and would like to take their system with them.

So there you have it. A quick rant about why you should use hardwired equipment if possible.
